Job summary

Great Hearts Academies seeks a Special Education Teacher to provide tailored educational services to students with disabilities in inclusion, resource, and other settings.

You will plan, deliver, and evaluate individualized programs in collaboration with school personnel while upholding high standards of instructional quality and student support.

Position Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: Great Hearts Monte Vista South ( Temple Beth-El, 211 Belknap Pl, San Antonio, TX 78212 )

FLSA Status: Exempt

Compensation Type: Salaried

Position Summary: In consultation with other school personnel, the Special Education Teacher: Provides educational services to students with disabilities Is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, learning programs, and instruction in the inclusion, resource, LID, and other instructional settings.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Planning and providing specially designed instructions to students receiving special education and related services.
  • Collaborating with related service providers and general education staff in the implementation of accommodations and modifications.
  • Ongoing communication and collaboration with parents, staff, and administrative staff regarding student planning and progress.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and policies affecting special education
  • Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies
  • Knowledge of educational technology applications
Required/Preferred Education
  • Teachers: Bachelor's degree required
  • Coordinators: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
Required/Preferred Experience
  • Teachers: 1-2 years teaching experience preferred.
Required Certifications
  • Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certification/Appropriate Board Licensure
  • Valid Texas Generalist/Core content Teaching Certification with required endorsements or training for relevant subject and level .
Physical Functions
  • Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching.
  • May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
