Job summary

Journey Community Schools in Tennessee seeks a Special Education Functional Skills teacher to deliver targeted instruction and support to students in kindergarten through 8th grade. You will help students access learning through functional skills strategies and individualized instruction.

You will collaborate with general and special education staff, implement IEPs, engage families, and contribute to an inclusive, rigorous learning environment across multiple campuses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Licensure: Valid teaching license with Special Education endorsement (461) or reciprocity with Tennessee.
• 2+ years of teaching in a functional skills, life skills, or self-contained classroom.
• Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals; CPI or similar crisis prevention training.

Behind every successful student is a team of passionate and dedicated educators. As a Special Education Functional Skills teacher at Journey Community Schools (JCS), you will provide specialized instruction and support to students.

Required Education, Credentials and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
• Licensure Requirements:
  • Valid teaching license and endorsement in Special Education (461 Special Education Comprehensive, K–12) with the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), or a valid Special Education teaching license and endorsement from a state that offers reciprocity with Tennessee.
• Experience Requirements:
  • 2+ years of teaching in a functional skills, life skills, or self-contained classroom
  • Experience collaborating with paraprofessionals
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar crisis prevention/de-escalation training
