Job summary

The School District of Bayfield is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students in KG-5th grade with learning and behavioral needs. Under the Director of Special Education, you will design and deliver instructional services tailored to individual needs and lead data-driven progress tracking.

Collaborate with general and special education staff, families, and community partners to implement effective supports and ensure inclusive education.

Qualifications

  • Special Education Legal and Contextual Knowledge.
  • Ability to lead and provide supports in line with equitable systems of supports.
  • Experience working with service providers, county agencies, and families.
  • Excellent communication with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Strong time management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Trauma Sensitive Practices preferred.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and planning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specially designed instruction for KG-5th grade with focus on learning disabilities and/or emotional behavioral disabilities.
  • Collaborate with general and special education staff, paraprofessionals, families, and community members.
  • Guide paraprofessionals in reading, writing, and math support, adapting curricula and tracking progress.
  • Implement social, emotional, and behavior supports and collect related progress data.
  • Support students with functional needs (self-care, mobility, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Special Education, the candidate is responsible for the development and delivery of student services based on individual needs.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide specially designed instruction, concentration in learning disabilities and/or emotional behavioral disabilities, functional academic skills, and management of all aspects of student programing in KG-5th grade
  • Work in close collaboration with members of the school community (general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, families, caregivers, community members, etc.)
  • Provide guidance to paraprofessionals focusing on assisting students in academic areas such as reading, writing, and/or math. This includes implementing curriculum, adapting instructional materials/strategies, and collecting data on academic progress
  • Implementation of a variety of social, emotional, and behavior supports as needed and collect data regarding student progress in this area.
  • Supporting students with functional needs (self-care, mobility, etc.) as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel between schools or to student homes may be required for certain positions.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Works in standard office and school building environments.
  • Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to participate in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training in order to attain certification.
Qualifications Profile
  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Prior experience working within special education preferred.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Special Education Teacher License. If a candidate does not currently hold said licensure, the application must be submitted within 30 days of employment.

Salary Range

Based on DPI licensure and district hiring schedule $43,085 - $87,186
