Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS is seeking a SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER at Desoto Correctional Institution within the Education department. The role is not telework and reports to the local FDC office serving the area.

You will provide special education services to students with disabilities in a correctional setting to support their academic growth. Required are a bachelor’s degree or higher and an Exceptional Student Education endorsement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university.
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate.
  • Must pass the Exceptional Student Education (K12) Subject Area Exam within 12 months of hire.

  • Be a champion for individualized learning by developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs and conducting IEP meetings with meticulous documentation.

Salary Incentives
  • Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
  • Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
Requirements

  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.

SPECIAL NOTE: Successful applicants will be issued a Florida Department of Corrections CTE Temporary Educator’s Certificate. Applicants will have 5 years to obtain the Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate. A Department of Corrections Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to the expiration of the Temporary Certificate.

SPECIAL NOTE: This position requires that you pass the Exceptional Student Education (K12) Subject Area Exam with 12 months of hire.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT

The Florida Department of Corrections requires all job applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes. This check must be completed before they can start working or volunteering.

Employment Eligibility

The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) only hires U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. FDC uses E-Verify to confirm an employee’s eligibility to work after completing the I-9 form.

The Florida Department of Corrections does not currently support H-1B Visa Sponsorship.
