Emerson Elementary in Pasco is seeking a Special Education Substitute Paraeducator to support students with special needs across various classroom settings. The role involves one‑on‑one and small group instruction, classroom assistance, student supervision, and daily activity support under teacher guidance.

Starting date is To Be Determined, with on‑call/as‑needed hours and a salary range dependent on program type.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on‑the‑job experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
  • Prior experience in a K‑12 school setting preferred but not required.

Responsabilités

  • Must be willing to assist in various classrooms including Life Skills, Structured Learning Classes, Self-Contained, Resource Room and other Specialized Programs.
  • Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one‑on‑one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision during student arrival and/or departure including crosswalk duty and wheelchair transport considerations.
  • Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus routes.
  • Assist with light cleaning, equipment issuing, setup and supervision of age‑appropriate activities.
  • Adhere to District safety policies and program guidelines.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests or assessments as directed by teacher.
  • Maintain accurate student records in the school information system.
  • Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, and/or lifting.
  • Participate in District meetings to share information and gain feedback.
  • Assist with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

Position Summary

Join our team in making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with special needs! The Paraeducator provides hands‑on instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students across a variety of classroom settings, including specialized and special education programs. Working closely with teachers and school staff, this position helps students succeed academically, socially, and safely while fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Duties may include one‑on‑one or small‑group instruction, classroom support, student supervision, personal care assistance, and support with daily school activities. Paid training is provided to help you build the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in this rewarding role.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be willing to assistin various classrooms to include but not limited to Life Skills, Structured Learning Classes, Self-Contained, Resource Room, Extended Resource Room and/or any Specialized Program.
  • Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one‑on‑one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision during student arrival and/or departure to include but not limited to cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
  • Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age‑appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
  • Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting.
  • Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
