The Mifflinburg Area School District is seeking Special Education Paraprofessionals to support teachers in Learning Support, Life Skills, and Multiple Disabilities classrooms in Mifflinburg, PA.

This is an hourly, non-tenured paraprofessional role with options for part-time or full-time schedules and potential summer hours. Candidates will assist with instructional tasks and student supervision, reporting to the assigned teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to work as part of a team.
  • Responds to emergencies with good judgment and care.
  • Utilizes technology effectively.
  • Collaborates with the IEP team to support academic, communication, and social/emotional goals.
  • Adheres to district procedures and completes required trainings (20 hours).
  • Assists with feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene when necessary.
  • Aims to achieve full SCM certification; CPR/First Aid training is preferred.
  • Participates in district trainings and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

SUMMARY:

The Paraprofessional is employed to assist a special education teacher(s) in teacher supervised instructional and non-instructional tasks working with students in Learning Support, Life Skills and Multiple Disabilities classrooms. The person occupying the position reports directly to his/her assigned teacher. The is a non-tenured position and is subject to annual review. The Paraprofessional is responsible for the efficient performance of assigned activities, including those described below.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

If Part-time, the position is 5 ½ hours per day, five days per week. Not to exceed 30 hours per week. Hourly position during the academic school year. Potential for some summer hours if desired and/or needed.

If full-time, the position is 7 hours per day, five days per week . Hourly position during the academic school year.?Potential for summer hours if desired or needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Mostly indoors in a classroom setting. Occasionally work in an outdoor recess or gym class setting. Physical requirements include bending, stooping, the strength and ability to lift approximately fifty (50) pounds and to assist in lifting and positioning students. Certification in Safe Crisis Management (SCM) which is a district approved program to ensure the safety of all students. MASD will provide the SCM training to paraprofessionals annually.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma is a preferred requirement and/or GED Certificate
  • Good communication skills and be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff

SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: In conducting this role, the essential duties of the Special Education Paraprofessional – Category 2 position shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs instructional and non-instructional activities as assigned and supervised by the teacher/supervisor
  • Supervises pupils in the school and community as assigned
  • Utilizes positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage student behavior
  • Implements S afe C risis M anagement procedures when required to ensure student safety
  • Demonstrates the ability to work as part of a team
  • Displays competence and good judgment in dealing with any physical and/or medical emergency which might arise
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize technology
  • Collaborates with the IEP team to assi st in developing an educational program that will be directed toward the development of academic, communication, and social/emotional skills
  • Adheres to Federal, State, IU, District, and other applicable procedures, policies, and regulations as well as 20 hours of p araprofessional trainings
  • Must be willing to feed, toilet, and assist with the personal hygiene of students when necessary.
  • Achieve annual full certification in Safe Crisis Management.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Participation in District approved in-service trainings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
