Job summary

Choctaw-Nicoma Park Public School District is seeking a dedicated Para-Professional to support one or a few handicapped students within the district’s special education program. You will assist with daily activities, monitor safety, and reinforce instructional goals in the classroom.

This 168-day position requires confidentiality, the ability to work with children and staff, and flexibility to follow teacher directives.

Qualifications

• HSD or equivalent required.
• Prefers 48 college credits or associate degree.
• Ability to interact with students, staff and parents with discretion.

Responsibilities

• Provide supportive help to handicapped students as prescribed by special education teachers.
• Carry out tasks prescribed by the special teacher in meeting student needs per IEPs.
• Ensure safety and well-being of students at school and on excursions.
• Participate in placement team, IEP meetings and staffing when input is required.
• Assist with students who may soil themselves or have ambulatory, eating, or other needs.
• Work with contracted and related services for handicapped students.
• Collaborate with regular teachers during mainstreaming in the least restrictive environment.
• Assist in diagnostic evaluation of students as requested by the special education teacher.
• Serve as resource person to student personnel evaluation team as needed.
• Show initiative, confidentiality, and professional conduct in all duties.
• Be trained to use A/V and equipment used in special education classrooms.
• Provide services to help students assess their education.
