Job summary

East Lansing Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional at Red Cedar Elementary to support instruction and classroom activities under the supervision of the building principal.

The role includes delivering small-group or guided instruction, assisting with behavior support plans, supervising students, and helping with materials, attendance, and basic technology. This is a 1.0 FTE position for the 26/27 school year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to operate basic office and audiovisual equipment.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with students at varying age/development levels.
• Ability to use computer programs including basic word processing.
• Ability to adapt or modify lesson materials as needed.
• Ability to push/pull up to 220 pounds on a wheeled cart.
• Willingness to participate in CPI training.
• May assist with Community Based Instruction per IEP.
• Experience with cognitive impairments/ASD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide group or individualized academic instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Implement behavior intervention programs and monitor data.
• Supervise and monitor students during arrival, lunch, recess, and other non-structured times.
• Collect information and summarize progress toward IEP goals.
• Assist in development, maintenance, and adaptation of instructional materials.
• Record attendance, maintain records, and perform clerical tasks.
• Assist with instructional technology under teacher direction.
• Clean and sanitize classroom equipment per district standards.
• Supervise students under teacher direction in school or community settings.
• Assume other duties assigned by teachers or supervising administrator.
• Provide medical supports in the bathroom as needed.
