Job summary

Walton Charter Academy in Pontiac, MI, part of National Heritage Academies, seeks a Title 1 paraprofessional to support students with disabilities and assist with instructional and behavioral needs under IEP/504 plans.

You will work 1:1 or in small groups to help students access the curriculum, while contributing to a safe, supportive learning environment and a commitment to whole-student development.

Qualifications

• Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
• Experience supporting individuals with disabilities and behavior modifications preferred.
• Ability to defuse situations and prevent escalation.

Responsibilities

• Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance per IEP or 504 plan.
• Support 1:1 or small groups.
• Educate the whole student academically, morally, and socially.
• Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from disability (resource room, inclusion and/or pullout).
• Attend professional development and IEP meetings with the team and parents as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assess student abilities and provide instructional and behavioral assistance for students in accordance with their individual education plan (IEP) and/or their 504-behavior plan as directed by the special education team. Support can be provided 1:1 or in small groups.
• Commit to educating the whole student - academically, morally, and socially.
• Implement result-driven curriculum and instruction specially designed to meet the unique needs of each student resulting from his/her disability such as, resource room, inclusion and/or pullout services.
• Attend professional development, specialized trainings and IEP meetings with special education team and parents as required.
• Assist with the required compliance documentation.

Qualifications

Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
