Job summary

The Cedar Rapids Community School District is hiring a part-time Teacher Associate to support students in classrooms, cafeterias, halls, and buses for seven hours per day, with supervision and health assistance as needed under nurse guidance.

You will assist with behavior management, prepare materials used in the educational process, help during mealtimes and bus activities, and work closely with teachers to maintain a safe, positive learning environment across buildings.

Job description

• Under the direction of professional staff, work with students individually or in group settings.


• Assist with supervision of students (classroom, cafeteria, halls, etc.).


• Implement behavior management strategies.


• May include riding the bus with students.


• May include working one-to-one with a student to complete assigned tasks


• Student supervision required.


• Ensuring student safety is required.


• Other duties may be assigned.


• Assist students with the necessary health assistance under the guidance of the nurses.


• Assist in the preparation of materials used in the educational process.


• Assist students at mealtime.


• Assist students in personal hygiene areas.


• Help get students to and from the bus or car.


• Other duties as may be assigned


• Assignments may vary based on building and district needs

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom, including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
