Wages: $18.93 – New Hires: entry level $14.93/hr. Current employees refer to salary schedule. Special education differential $4.00 per hour.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide research‑based social skills instruction and intervention under supervision of a certified teacher.
  • Attend additional required evening trainings or meetings during school year or summer.
  • Accept feedback from specialists and the special education facilitator, and use feedback to adjust instruction.
  • Follow directives of classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
  • Work with students who are explosive in nature and engage in physical and verbal aggression.
  • Work with students with learning, behavior, physical, and/or cognitive disabilities, including those diagnosed with Autism and Spectrum Disorder.
  • Provide services for special education students as needed in the special or general education setting.
  • Under direction of the special education teacher, provide academic assistance, behavior interventions, instruction of social skills and daily living skills.
  • Attend field trips with students as necessary.
  • Ensure regular attendance to meet the services specified in IEP and provide FAPE.
  • Analyze given situations and respond appropriately.
  • Interact appropriately with all students.
  • Be a team player, assisting in all aspects needed within classroom, cafeteria, hallway, etc.
  • Have good interpersonal skills to work with students, classroom staff, and building staff.
  • Accompany students to and from bus, restroom, and assist with hygiene needs.
  • Supervise students in classroom, lunch/breakfast, building, field trips and work sites.
  • Work individually with one student or a small group as assigned by the special education teacher or principal.
  • Respond to multiple behavior plans simultaneously and implement changes when directed.
  • Initiate activities with students as needed.
  • Be flexible with assignments, changing duties when needed under direction of principal, teacher or facilitator.
  • Nurture, patience, dependability, and accept responsibility with students.
  • Possess ability to climb stairs, walk long distances, and navigate the city bus system.
  • Follow specific procedures in teaching new skills as directed by teacher.
  • Accompany students to community and building work sites, provide instruction, supervision and behavior modification.
  • Collect accurate data, graphing and complete necessary paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Support the district’s multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
  • Sign vacancy notice acknowledging willingness to perform listed duties and responsibilities.
  • Pass Medicaid Fraud background check before hire; may be removed if name appears on listing.
  • Physically restrain students if trained and as directed by building principal.
  • Remain calm and respectful when students are in crisis.
  • Engage in collaborative work and contribute to team planning.
  • Possibility of toileting, diapering, hygiene care and/or supervision in restroom.
  • May require extended standing or sitting; may include riding bus with students.
  • Participate and direct extensive physical activities.
  • Supervise students in out‑of‑classroom activities during assigned work day.
  • Model positive attitude and team cooperation for students.
  • Accept direction from special education teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned by administration.
Physical Requirements of Position

Employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, walk, and occasionally lift, move or push items up to 50 lbs. Must supervise students in all types of weather, meet multiple demands, and implement crisis intervention strategies including physical restraint procedures. Must be able to maintain operation of safety and well‑being.

Work Environment

Noise level ranges from quiet to loud; work may be indoors or outdoors, non‑air‑conditioned rooms. The environment is tobacco and alcohol free, fast‑paced with constant contact with students, staff, or the public, and carries direct responsibility for safety, wellbeing, and work output of students.
