Wages

Wages: $18.93. Entry‑level rate for new hires: $14.93/hr. Current employees in the bargaining unit use the salary schedule established by the applicable bargaining group. This special education position meets the $4.00 special education differential pay outlined in the memorandum of agreement between DCSD and the Davenport Association of Para Educators.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide research‑based social skills instruction and intervention under the supervision of a certified teacher.
• Attend any required evening trainings or meetings during the school year or summer.
• Accept feedback from specialists and the special education facilitator and use it to modify instruction.
• Follow directives of classroom teacher, building administration, and district administration.
• Work with students who are explosive in nature and engage in physical or verbal aggression.
• Work with students with learning, behavior, physical, and/or cognitive disabilities (mild, moderate, severe), including those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
• Provide services for special education students as needed in the special or general education setting.
• Under direction of the special education teacher provide academic assistance, behavior interventions, and instruction of social and daily living skills.
• Attend field trips and other activities as necessary.
• Attend regularly to meet IEP requirements and provide FAPE.
• Analyze situations and respond appropriately.
• Interact with all students and colleagues respectfully.
• Assist in classroom, cafeteria, hallway, and other areas as required.
• Accompany students to and from the bus, restrooms, and other needs.
• Supervise students in classroom, lunch, field trips, and work sites.
• Work individually with one student or small group assigned by teacher or principal.
• Assist students with changing clothes, hygiene needs, and physical education.
• Follow multiple behavior plans and implement changes as directed.
• Initiate activities and respond to students’ needs.
• Adapt to changes in assignments and schedule.
• Provide accurate data collection and maintain paperwork.
• Support the multi‑tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow directives.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administration.

Physical Requirements

The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, speak, hear, see, walk, lift or move items up to 50 lb, supervise in all weather, and interact with public and staff. The job may require crisis prevention intervention, including physical restraint and escorting.

Work Environment

Noise level ranges from quiet to loud. Work may be indoor and/or outdoor, in non‑air‑conditioned rooms. There is a tobacco and alcohol‑free environment. The role is fast‑paced with constant contact with students, staff, or the public, and carries direct responsibility for the safety and well‑being of students.
