Job summary

Oakridge Public Schools in Muskegon, MI, is seeking a Special Education Mandated Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities at Oakridge Upper Elementary.

The role requires high school diploma or higher, plus one of: associate degree or higher or two years of college, WorkKeys, MTTC/Parapro readiness, or ETS Parapro scores; CPR preferred. You will lift up to 75 lbs and work with teachers, speech and therapy staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• One of: Associate degree or higher, 60 college hours, WorkKeys, MTTC/Basic Skills, Parapro ETS score, or related credentials.
• Experience with children with disabilities and ability to assist with physical needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with physical needs of students, including administering medication.
• Monitor students during medical episodes and provide supportive care.
• Collaborate with teachers, speech therapist, physical therapist and assistive technology coordinator.
• Attend training sessions as needed.

Qualifications:

-High School Diploma or equivalent required.

-Highly qualified with one of the following:

· Associates Degree or higher

· Complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours)

· Previous successful completion of the WorkKeys Assessment with scores as follows: Reading for Information: 4, Applied Math: 4, Writing: 3

· Passing score on Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC)-Professional Readiness Exam or the original Basic Skills Exam

· Passing score of 460 on the ETS Parapro Assessment

-Experience with children with disabilities.

- Ability to assist with physical needs of students, including administering of medication as well as monitoring student during medical episodes.

-Knowledge/experience with two person lift and SoloLift.

-Ability to lift 75 pounds.

-Ability to scribe both notes and assignments.

-Available to attend training sessions, as needed.

-CPR certified preferred.

- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, speech therapist, physical therapist and assistive technology coordinator.

-Specific duties within the building will be determined by the building principal in conjunction with special education staff and administration and may be modified during the school year as the needs of special education students change.

Hours of Work:

Dependent on classification (ASD or 1:1 para) hours will range from 6.75 to 7hrs/day Monday-Friday when school is in session

*Start times on Tuesdays are 1hr later due to late start
