Job summary

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of reading and behavioral interventions.
  • Knowledge of teacher as coach practices (demonstration lessons, observations, communication)
  • Knowledge of RI Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of differentiating instruction and Response to Intervention process
  • Ability to conduct/provide professional development sessions after school and during the summer
  • Knowledge of Common Core and Essential Elements as pertinent to level
  • Knowledge of implementation and analysis of District assessment tools
  • Knowledge of PBIS and its implementation
  • Complete new hire compliance training prior to first day
  • Selected candidate must pass a pre-employment criminal history background check
  • Bilingual preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school and district staff to improve academic achievement of students with disabilities.
  • Design and deliver professional development for secondary teachers in differentiated instruction, IEP development/maps/cdp, and RI regulations governing students with disabilities.
  • Assist teachers in planning, writing Transition IEPs, CDPs, and maps to meet needs of students with disabilities.
  • Conduct student assessments providing comprehensive diagnostic evaluation of strengths and needs.
  • Interpret and analyze data to develop intervention plans and ed planning.
  • Assist teachers with implementation of RTI framework.
  • Collaborate with adult agency providers (ORS, BHDDH).
  • Attend professional development and training to enhance skills.
  • Work with community and social service agencies to support student learning.
  • Assist teachers in differentiating instruction and planning daily schedules.
  • Support teams in developing procedures for special education areas (manifestations, new referrals, re-evaluations).
  • Manage files and input IEP/evaluation data into district system; monitor compliance.
  • Any other duties assigned by special education supervisor/administrator.
  • Special Education Specialist reports to Special Education Directors.
