Job summary

Rantoul City Schools seeks a Special Education Instructional Coach to lead district-wide instructional coaching for SPED teachers and teams. The role emphasizes inclusion, collaboration, and high expectations across elementary and middle grades.

Required are a valid SPED license, endorsement, and a Master’s degree pursuit in related fields, with preferred experience in coaching and PD delivery to staff. This 200-day position reports to the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional leadership and support to improve performance of SPED teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Coach teachers on curriculum development, classroom management, and instructional strategies
  • Support data collection and progress monitoring for IEP goals
  • Lead co-planning, co-teaching, and co-assessing in SPED and general ed
  • Facilitate professional development and use technology in differentiated instruction
  • Develop scheduling plans to visit and support teachers
  • Assist in coordinating and disseminating SPED information to staff, parents, and community

General Qualifications
  • Possesses a valid Professional Educator License; Special Education Endorsement
  • Possesses or is pursuing a Master's degree in Special Education, Curriculum and Instruction or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Previous experience in a teacher-leader or coaching role preferred
  • Previous experience teaching both elementary and middle school special education preferred
  • Previous experience with and commitment to inclusion and co-teaching
  • Previous experience providing Professional Development for staff preferred
  • Special interest/skills related to providing specially designed instruction in the general education setting
  • Expertise and experience utilizing both Universal Design for Learning and differentiation in the classroom in order to meet the needs of all students
  • Expertise and experience in analyzing student data in order to drive instructional decision making
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Expertise and experience implementing best teaching practices for students with various disabilities
  • Basic skills in technology
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a positive professional community of adult learners

Essential Job Skills

Staff member will effectively perform the following duties in a timely manner:

  • Provide instructional leadership and support to improve performance of special education teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Coach and assist teachers with curriculum development, classroom management, instructional strategies, assessment of student performance and all aspects of professional development in multiple content areas
  • Improve teachers' content, management and instructional strategies to better address the needs of all students in a positive environment
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and use of instructional strategies for working with the diverse needs of students in multiple content areas
  • Demonstrate a commitment to meaningful inclusion for all students through strategic support and guidance that improves academic, behavioral and social emotional outcomes for students with disabilities
  • Provide explicit guidance on specially designed instruction, co-planning, co-teaching and co-assessing for both special education and general education teachers
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Develop effective scheduling plans to visit and support each teacher during the year
  • Facilitate collaborative co-planning discussions with co-teaching partners
  • Assists special education teachers in data collection and progress monitoring
  • Provide special education teachers and teaching assistants with strategies and activities that address IEP goals and assist IEP students in meeting Illinois Learning Standards
  • Participate in IEP meetings and annual reviews (as needed) and facilitate the compilation of accurate documentation for student records
  • Provide coaching to support and encourage general and special education teachers to effectively implement and integrate technology into their differentiated instruction
  • Facilitates the selection of research-based curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment for special education programs
  • Provides feedback on program effectiveness to site and program administrators
  • Initiates and coordinates innovative programming
  • Assists in the coordination of professional development for special education personnel, and assists in conducting professional development
  • Prepares and disseminates information to school personnel, parents, students, public and community agencies related to special education programming
  • Assist Special Education Administrators in the development of a special education teacher mentoring program
  • Attends meetings or conferences to be informed of special education matters
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education, Superintendent, and Board of Education
