Job summary

Orange Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Inclusion Specialist to lead district-wide implementation of inclusive practices and support teachers and paraeducators in delivering accessible instruction. This one-year, grant-funded position emphasizes collaboration, scheduling innovation, and sustainable systemic change.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's in Special Education or related field and a valid teaching license; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaborative planning between co-teachers, specialists, and general educators.
  • Provide paraeducator coaching and training to support student independence and inclusion.
  • Support schools in developing actionable strategies for meaningful participation of students with disabilities.

Position: Special Education Inclusion Specialist for the District


Requirements:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education, General Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (Master's degree strongly preferred).

  • Licensure: Valid state teaching license or certification

  • Experience: Strong commitment to supporting students with intensive needs and increasing inclusive practices.

  • Skills:

    • Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive scheduling strategies, and curriculum modifications.

    • Proven ability to coach and mentor adult learners (teachers and paraeducators).

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate collaborative planning and build trust across diverse teams.

    • Excellent organizational and project management skills to coordinate a district-wide initiative.




Key Responsibilities:



  • Program Coordination: Lead the districtwide implementation and continuous improvement of the Inclusive Intensive Support Network.

  • Staff Coaching & Consultation: Provide ongoing coaching, technical assistance, and embedded professional development to general and special education teachers.

  • Inclusive Scheduling: Support school leadership and counseling teams in implementing inclusive scheduling practices through strategic, high-quality schedule design.

  • Collaborative Planning: Facilitate effective collaborative planning sessions between co-teachers, specialists, and general educators to ensure lesson accessibility and alignment with student needs.

  • Paraeducator Development: Provide targeted, hands and arms coaching and training for paraeducators to effectively support student independence and inclusion.

  • Team Facilitation: Assist school-based teams in developing actionable strategies to increase the meaningful participation of students with disabilities within general education environments.

  • Capacity Building: Create sustainable systems, resources, and frameworks that will outlast the one-year grant period, ensuring long-term inclusive success across all schools.


Additional Information



  • Term: This is a one-year, grant-funded position.

  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience and aligned with the district salary schedule. Includes full benefits package.


Physical Responsibilities:


Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to 50 pounds (and/or up to adult size body weight with two-to-three person lift). The position can require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.
