Job summary

Berkeley County Schools is seeking a Special Education Coordinator to support program planning, development, and inclusion of exceptional students with their peers. This role reports to the Assistant Superintendent/Director and the Assistant Director of Special Education and focuses on improving services across schools.

Qualifications

• Valid West Virginia teaching certificate with special education endorsement.
• Three or more years of special education teaching experience.
• Master’s Degree preferred in Special Education.

• Coordinate and promote positive working relationships among school, family, and the Office of Special Education.
• Provide professional development in curriculum, instruction, and service delivery for staff.
• Complete educational testing and classroom observations as assigned.

Special Education Coordinator

LOCATION: Special Education Office

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid West Virginia teaching certificate with special education endorsement, and former experience as a Special Education teacher is required. Master’s Degree preferred in at least one area of Special Education. Three or more years special education teaching experience required

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Assistant Superintendent/ Director and Assistant Director of Special Education

EMPLOYMENT TERM: 215 Days

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• a. Assist in program planning, development, and implementation of services for exceptional students and the inclusion of special needs students in settings with their age-appropriate peers.
• b. Provide information, resources, and technical assistance to support students in the least restrictive environments including access to assistive technology, job-embedded training, consultative services, etc
• c. Work cooperatively with Assistant Superintendent, Director and Assistant Director and other county staff to improve special education programs and services.
• d. Assist in development and implementation of curriculum improvement activities.
• e. Work collaboratively with building teams to continuously develop and revise program needs
• f. Provide professional development in curriculum, instruction, service delivery and due process compliance for licensed and non-licensed special education staff
• g. Provide information, and technical assistance to support students in the least restrictive environments including access to assistive technology, job-embedded training, consultative services, etc.
• h. Coordinate and promote positive working relationships between school, student, home, and the Office of Special Education.
• i. Complete educational testing, classroom observations/reports as assigned by MDET.
• j. adhere to all timelines.
• k. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent, Director and/or Assistant Director.
