Special Education Classroom Instructional Assistant Foundations

Position Overview

The Special Education Classroom Instructional Assistant provides assistance and motivation to students with special needs. The role involves working closely with students with disabilities throughout the school day to support their learning and success in various classroom settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Work effectively with children with disabilities and special needs in both integrated and special education classrooms.
  2. Collaborate with teachers, co-workers, parents, and caregivers as part of an educational team.
  3. Maintain professional, legal, and ethical conduct towards students, parents, and colleagues.
  4. Motivate students to build self-esteem, develop social skills, think independently, and advocate for themselves.
  5. Utilize assistive technology, computers, and adaptive equipment to support student learning.
  6. Implement developmentally appropriate instructional interventions across various developmental areas.
  7. Collect and maintain accurate data on student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers.
  8. Respect and appreciate diversity in students’ skills, abilities, cultural backgrounds, and values.
  9. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following prior to employment:

  • Two years of higher education, or
  • An associate degree or higher, or
  • Voluntary certification through the Board of Educational Examiners (Paraeducator Certification), or
  • Successful completion of ACT WorkKeys assessments.
