JOB GOAL

QUALIFICATIONS
Holds a valid Tennessee teacher's license with appropriate endorsement, has strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills; and meets health and physical requirements.
Teachers assigned to a Comprehensive Development Classroom (CDC) must hold, or be eligible to obtain, the Tennessee Special Education Comprehensive Program K–12 endorsement (code 461). An active Tennessee license carrying the equivalent Provisional Special Education Comprehensive K–12 endorsement (code 195) may also be considered.
Applicants who do not currently hold endorsement 461 may be eligible to complete a Tennessee-approved job-embedded educator preparation program. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, meet the program’s minimum 2.5 GPA requirement, and pass Praxis 5547—Special Education: Severe to Profound—before they can receive the appropriate teaching license and serve as the teacher of record. Candidates must also complete all remaining educator preparation and state licensure requirements within the required timelines.
Candidates who have not yet passed Praxis 5547 may be considered for employment as a substitute in the CDC classroom while preparing for the assessment. The candidate must complete the Wilson County Schools substitute hiring process and will remain employed and paid as a substitute until the required assessment is passed, the appropriate Tennessee license is issued, and the candidate is approved for employment as a licensed teacher.
