Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 is seeking a Special Education Bus Attendant to support the bus driver in loading and unloading passengers and in managing passengers with special needs.

Responsibilities include securing wheelchairs and seats, operating the lift, and maintaining safety and professionalism on the bus. You will communicate via two-way radio and follow district procedures daily.

Qualificações

• Clear verbal communication and the ability to read and write to understand student needs.
• Ability to complete all pertinent special-education aide-training sessions including in-service meetings.
• Ability to cope with illness or injury of a passenger and manage risks on the bus.

Job Title: Special Education Bus Attendant

Purpose of Position: An employee of TJA who assists the bus driver in loading/unloading passengers and management of Passengers.

Primary Job Function Of Special Education Attendant

• Reports on time and is on the bus when scheduled.
• Assists the Bus Driver in loading and unloading of passengers from the vehicle.
• Assists in the operation of the lift to board and discharge special need passengers.
• Responsible for the proper securing of wheelchairs, harnesses, seatbelts, car seats and booster seats.
• Assists in passenger management.
• Assists passengers who become ill on the vehicle.
• Makes themselves aware of any special needs of students on the bus.
• Makes themselves available to the driver and follows his/hers instructions.
• Communicate by two-way radio when problems arise and driver is unavailable.
• Read and follow procedures in the Employee Handbook.
• Meet standards of dress as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with school personnel, students, parents and the general public.
• Prepared mentally and physically to perform safety sensitive functions on a daily basis.
• Physically capable to load/unload passengers.
• Maintains and demonstrates a helpful, positive and pleasant attitude toward fellow co-workers, other school district employees and the general public.

Qualifications

• Possess clear and understandable verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate by two-way radio.
• Possess the reading and writing skills necessary to understand the needs of the students being transported.
• Possess the ability to complete all pertinent special-education aide-training sessions including required in-service meetings.
• Have the ability to effectively cope with unexpected occurrences such as illness or injury of a passenger.
• Possess the ability to work efficiently and patiently under pressure and stressful conditions.

Working Conditions

Most activity of this position takes place inside of the vehicle. Outside activity would include loading of special-needs passengers. Noise levels can be high from outside traffic and passengers. There is exposure to dust and vehicle fumes. Climate conditions include cold, heat, humidity and inclement weather. Physical labor may be involved when loading/unloading wheelchairs or special needs passengers requiring exerting leverage, pushing, pulling and securing passengers.

Hourly Rate: $19.46 Eligible for paid time off benefits, and medical insurance benefits.
