South Hamilton Community School District

Purpose: The purpose of the Special Education Associate position is to provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with special needs, allowing them to attend a regular classroom setting on a regular basis.

Reports to: Building Principal

Education Preferred: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)

You Need

• To be capable of performing the tasks outlined below
• To demonstrate an aptitude for successful completion of your duties
• Any such qualifications that the School Board may find appropriate for this position

Responsibilities

• Desire to work with physically impaired and special needs students on a daily basis.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly when an emergency arises.
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn IEP procedures, physical therapy, assistive technology and devices, and occupational therapy programs.
• Ability to communicate with extreme patience to students with special needs or behavioral problems.
• Must be able to interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, parents, and other staff members

Terms of Employment

• Yearly contract, as negotiated with the School Board
