Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to support students with disabilities in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will assist in implementing IEP goals, adapting activities, and monitoring behavior to create a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include collaboration with teachers and parents, administering materials, and providing basic health support as needed. Strong teamwork and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid State of Washington driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
  • Secure Training, CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adapts, under the direction of the teacher, classroom activities and materials to support participation by all special education students.
  • Administers a variety of materials and assignments to assist the teacher in evaluating student progress and organizing individual needs.
  • Administers first aid and medical assistance as required for student safety.
  • Assists students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
  • Attends meetings and in-service trainings to learn and convey job-related information.
  • Confers with teachers and parents regarding student progress and IEP objectives.
  • Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
  • Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediation plans.
  • Maintains student files and instructional materials to ensure availability and accuracy.
  • Monitors students across school environments to promote safety and positive learning.
  • Performs other related duties to ensure effective classroom functioning.
