Job summary

Berkeley Unified School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant I-Special Education to support certificated staff in reinforcing instruction for students with mild to moderate disabilities. The role includes health and hygiene assistance, behavior support, and help with daily classroom activities.

You will work under supervision to implement Individual Education Programs, monitor student progress, and help prepare instructional materials.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience working with students in an organized setting or with individuals with special needs.

Responsibilities

Assist instructional staff in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students with mild to moderate disabilities.
Monitor student health conditions and respond to emergencies per district protocols.
Observe and redirect student behavior using approved procedures; document progress and behavior data.
Assist students with classroom assignments, questions, and learning activities; adapt materials as needed.
Help with personal hygiene tasks and eating activities; support students with independent living skills.
Escort students during the day and on field trips; supervise during outdoor activities and transitions.
