Job summary

Denton Independent School District Savannah Elementary in Aubrey, Texas seeks a Special Education AFS Aide to support instructional needs of students with disabilities. Under the supervision of a certified teacher, you will assist in implementing classroom programs, managing behavior, and supporting self-help activities.

The role is nonexempt, with 187 duty days, hourly pay starting at $17.60 and an annual salary around the mid-$20k to low-$30k range.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent and ability to pass a rigorous content-oriented exam.
• Certification: Current Texas educational aide certificate or ability to obtain.
• Experience: Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

• Helps teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Helps maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
• Helps with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Helps teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assists students with physical disabilities including transferring to/from wheelchairs and positioning.
• Assists with feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
• Helps manage behavior and intervenes in crises as needed.
