Job summary

Licking Heights Local Schools is seeking a Special Education Aide to support identified students in regular or special education settings. You will assist with daily living and academic tasks, implement behavior plans, and help during individual or small group instruction under the supervision of the building principal and SPED director.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, an Educational Aide Permit, and 1–2 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Educational Aide Permit from State Board of Education.
  • 1–2 years related experience preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional attitude toward confidential information.
  • Be familiar with current IEP and its implementation.
  • Assist students in meeting daily living needs and academic needs.
  • Assist identified student(s) during individual and small group instruction.

JOB GOAL: To assist the identified student(s), who are enrolled in the regular education or special education program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to two years related experience preferred
  • Required to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
  • Willing to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate
  • Educational Aide Permit from the State Board of Education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a professional attitude toward confidential information.
  2. Be familiar with the current IEP and its implementation.
  3. Assist student(s) in meeting daily living needs.
  4. Assist with student’s academic needs, as determined by the IEP and teacher direction.
  5. Assist the identified student(s) during individual and small group instruction, implementing behavior management plans, tutoring, etc.
  6. Assist the classroom instructor with disaster drills, field trips, parent conferences, recess, etc.
  7. Seek assistance from immediate supervisor or special education coordinator as needed.
  8. Perform any other duties as assigned by building principal or special education coordinator as pertains to job goals.

  • Consistent requirements to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read and speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel and climb and stoop
  • Consistent requirements to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the Special Education Director and the Building Principals in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy.
