Job summary

Monroe #1 BOCES in Fairport, NY seeks a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a 10-month, full-time, probationary position starting September 2026. You will support licensed teachers, assist with IEPs, and help students with disabilities in daily classroom activities.

Responsibilities include adapting lessons, collecting data, and coordinating with staff, parents, and therapists. A valid NYS Teaching Assistant or Teacher certificate is required, with additional training in behavior management

Qualifications

• Must hold valid NYS Teaching Assistant or NYS Teacher certificate.
• Experience with behavioral/emotional disabilities or developmental disabilities preferred.
• College-level work in education preferred.
• Training in classroom management systems preferred.
• Training in Life Space Interventions/SCIP-R/TCI/CPI or similar systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional services to students under the supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.
• Assist with Individualized Education Plans for students with significant communication, learning and behavioral disabilities.
• Adapt and implement classroom lessons under supervision.
• Work with staff to implement and monitor Individual Behavior Plans.
• Communicate effectively with the team including teachers, staff and parents.
• Collect data and provide input to the behavioral specialist and classroom team.
• Assist students with daily living skills (dressing, toileting, etc.).
• Accompany students to and from areas outside the classroom (swimming, bus, etc.).
• Plan and implement daily activities.
• Maintain record-keeping.
• Assist students in communicating using adaptive devices.
• Attend staffing meetings and trainings as needed.
• Attend training specific to students.
• Support students in work programs.
• Other duties as determined by teacher or administrator.
