Responsibilities

• Planning and conducting Student Action Plan (SAP) meetings for each child on an annual basis.

• Develop daily lesson plans using Bright Hope Learning Center Curriculum as the foundation.
• Design and develop learning programs using Bible Based Curriculum aligned to Growth Report goals.
• Use diverse teaching methods including individualized instruction and group work.
• Develop and implement GIFT system for the classroom.
• Implement behavior management techniques; inform supervisor of concerns.
• Complete Student Growth Indicators for new students within 45 days.
• Maintain communication with parents/caregivers daily.
• Attend staff and monthly parent meetings; participate in BHLC fundraising events.

Job Title: Special Ed Teacher

Hours: M-Thurs: 7:30-3:30

Reports to Director of Educational Services

Salary: $35,000 for 32 hours/week

Physical location: 222 Main St., Shelbyville KY 40065

Benefits: Fridays off + 4 three week breaks during the year, 2 extra holiday weeks off plus 9 paid individual holidays

Position Overview:

The classroom teacher is responsible for furthering the mission of the Bright Hope Learning Center by leading and managing the classroom and implementing the existing educational curriculum. This involves writing individual student goals and providing learning experiences for the students to which he/she is assigned in the areas of spiritual development, cognitive, receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor and self-help and social skills, alongside therapist colleagues. It also involves supervising classroom associates and volunteers in the classroom and performing others duties as assigned. Paperwork and curriculum specific to BHLC training will be provided. *

Key Job Responsibilities:

Planning and conducting Student Action Plan (SAP) meetings for each child on an annual basis.

Implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities related to Growth Report (GR) goals.

Develop daily lesson plans using Head to Toe, Heart and Soul, Bright Hope Learning Center Curriculum, as the foundational classroom curriculum in which activities are built around.

Design and develop learning programs, implementing appropriate classroom curriculum activities utilizing the Bible Based Curriculum as outlined in weekly lesson plans that correlate to Growth Report goals for each student meeting their spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and emotional needs.

Use various teaching methods to promote learning, including intensive individualized instruction, small group work and individualized large group work.

Develop and implement GIFT (Guide to Individually Focused Teaching) system for the classroom.

Implementation of appropriate behavior management techniques. Inform supervisor of any special situations/concerns.

Complete initial Student Growth Indicators (SGI) for all new students within 45 calendar days of their enrollment.

Complete mid-year updates on Growth Report and on SGI as necessary.

Complete annual summaries, annual Student Growth Indicator checks and updated progress on Growth Reports for each student annually.

Maintain communication with parents/caregivers daily documenting any pertinent information.

Update progress related to the Growth Report outcomes regularly.

Complete Quarterly Reports at the end of each term with the daily absence slips attached and an annual attendance report at the end of each school year.

Completes necessary documentation related to performance of those he/she supervises.

Maintain good positive communication with parents regarding behavior issues.

Ensure appropriate accommodations and adaptations are in place to ensure maximum participation opportunities are available for each student.

Use a team approach to implement activities as recommended by physical, occupational, speech therapist, low vision therapist and assistive technology professional.

Daily attendance at "flock" every morning before students arrive

Attendance at designated staff meetings

Attendance at monthly parent meetings to watch the kids or help with the hands-on meetings (time will be compensated by time off)

Attendance at BHLC fundraising events: Bright Steps, Garden Party (& any new ones added)

Attend workshops/seminars as requested, CS In-services and relevant conferences

Complete 15 hours of ECETRIS training as required by the state of KY; complete 7.5 required hours within the first 90 days of hire as required by the state of KY.

Complete incident reports for any accident. Make sure the original of all documentation and other pertinent information regarding any incident/accident is turned in for main filing after review by the Executive Director.

Other duties as needed or required.

Job Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

Licensed with a Teaching Certificate by the Kentucky State Department of Education (or is able to transfer it from another state)

Support for and participation in the trans-disciplinary team approach to Special Education

Stays up-to-date on required continuing education

Possesses current and effective knowledge and skills in: child development, education, assessments, Best Practices and documentation

Supervision of assigned employees, students and volunteers.

Excellent discretion, communication, and teaching skills.

Works independently and cooperatively as a team member with all BHLC staff.

Incorporates a welcoming and teaching attitude towards guests, student interns and others who come to learn from the Bright Hope Learning Center Team
