Job summary

ReNEW Schools is seeking a paraprofessional to assist teachers in implementing instructional programs and guiding students toward academic potential. You will help manage behavior, support small groups, and handle routine tasks like attendance and materials preparation.

Under supervision, you will contribute to creating a conducive learning environment and collaborate with teachers and parents to support student needs and success.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and follow instructions and support teachers in implementing instructional programs.
  • Capacity to work with students individually and in groups to meet educational needs.
  • Experience with basic classroom routines and record-keeping tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing behavior and procedures conducive for learning.
  • Assist in planning and directing learning activities under teacher supervision.
  • Work with small groups to meet students’ educational needs.
  • Assist with meeting physical needs of students.
  • Handle materials, attendance, seating, and grading records as directed by teachers.
  • Participate in professional development and training to improve instructional support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and students to address academic and social needs.
  • Perform duties in areas such as Journeys, Title I, Pathways, Special Education as assigned.

Job description

SUMMARY

To assist teachers in the implementation of instructional programs in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Meet the requirement of Highly Qualified status by one or more of the following:
  3. have obtained an Associates Degree or higher
  4. have completed 60 college credit hours or more
  5. have passed or be able to pass the ParaPro Assessment
  6. Possess computer skills in Word, Spreadsheets, and Data Entry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Under supervision of an assigned teacher and building principal, assist in managing behavior and procedures that are conducive for learning (classroom, halls, restrooms, recess, lunch, etc.).
  2. Under supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in planning and directing learning activities.
  3. Under supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in working with small groups of learners, in order to meet educational needs of students.
  4. Assist in meeting the physical needs of students (e.g, assisting in meeting the needs of physically challenged students).
  5. Under the supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in the management and organizational requirements of instruction (running off materials, setting up materials for group work, recording attendance, recording grades, etc.).
  6. Participate in in-service training programs designed to upgrade knowledge and skills that will assist in meeting the educational, physical, social, or emotional needs of students.
  7. Have the content skills needed to successfully be able to assist an assigned teacher in meeting the academic needs of students.
  8. Be able to effectively work with assigned teachers, parents, and students in order to meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional needs of students.
  9. And any other duties as deemed necessary by their supervisor.
  10. Under the supervision of an assigned teacher, be able to complete duties specific to an aide’s position in any of the following areas:Journeys, Title I, Pathways, Point, Special Education, Pre-School, Self-Contained, or As Assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to the duties assigned. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one‑to‑one basis as well as in groups.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally the employee will repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
