Job summary

The Aide Special Education CLASS, will provide direct support/services to students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings in order to access the curriculum in the student’s least restrictive environment.

The incumbent will assist teacher and staff in performing a variety of tasks by implementing and/or documenting the student’s Individualized Education Plan, including academics, behavior, communication, social and personal care skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 48 college hours or passing score on the Para Professional Assessment of Knowledge.
• Texas Educational Aide Certification preferred or required to obtain once hired.
• De-Escalation/Restraint Certification preferred or required to obtain once hired (district-provided training).
• Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) training preferred or required to obtain once hired.
• Proficient in using Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Interact with students in a variety of settings to ensure student safety and engagement.
• Assist with classroom management by maintaining alert attention regarding supervision of students at all times.
• Execute behavioral strategies as identified by the teacher; intervene using a continuum of strategies including approved physical restraint when necessary.
• Implement academic/functional lessons under the guidance of the teacher in various settings.
• Assist students with personal care services (e.g., feeding, cleaning, dressing, lifting, toileting) — may be more than 50% of the work day.
