Job summary

State of South Carolina’s SLED invites applications for two Special Agent positions in Investigative Services - Training. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree, integrity, and a strong service mindset.

The role focuses on raising professional capabilities of Division personnel through structured training and certification management. The incumbent will manage in-house and external training, oversee weapons instruction programs, and ensure certification attainment for sworn and non-sworn

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Six years as a certified law enforcement officer.
• Current Class I Law Enforcement Officer certification.
• Current firearms instructor certification.
• Extensive knowledge of law enforcement operations, procedures, and techniques.
• Live within 60 miles of SLED HQ in Columbia, SC; overnight travel required.

Responsibilities

• Provide and supervise mandatory yearly in-service training for all sworn employees.
• Plan, develop, and implement training programs and lesson plans for Division personnel.
• Coordinate advanced Division training hosted externally and in-house.
• Oversee all phases of weapons training (Spring, Fall Glock, in-service handguns and rifles).
• Obtain and maintain Instructor Certifications for in-service, SWAT, and other courses.

General Responsibility

Under direct supervision, support the mission of the Training Section in raising the professional capabilities of Division personnel, in addition to fulfilling law enforcement responsibilities and other assigned duties.

Specific Duties

• Provide and assist with mandatory yearly in-service training for all sworn employees, instruction, and monitoring of in-service.
• Assist with implementation, planning, lesson plans, and necessary function related to advanced Division training hosted externally and "in house."
• Assist with all phases of weapons training (Spring, Fall Glock, in service handguns, and rifles).
• Plan and implement training courses, lesson plans, scheduling, and instruction conducted by the Division for sworn and non-sworn personnel.
• Obtain and maintain pertinent Instructor Certifications required to train Division personnel for in service, SWAT, and other training courses provided to Division personnel (e.g. firearms, DT, driving, OC, etc.).

Minimum And Additional Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
• Must have served at least six (6) years as a certified law enforcement officer.
• Must be a current Class I Law Enforcement Officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
• Must be a current firearms instructor through the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
• Must possess thorough knowledge of law enforcement operations, procedures, and techniques.
• Must have extensive knowledge of the mission, policies, and procedures of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
• Must live within a 60-mile radius of SLED Headquarters located in Columbia, South Carolina.
• Position requires overnight travel and irregular work hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an instructor is preferred.
• Certifications in various disciplines as an instructor is preferred.
