RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a SPD Technician Certified for Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey. The role focuses on cleaning, inspecting, assembling, and sterilizing instruments to support safe patient care across departments.

A typical day includes processing instruments, maintaining trays, operating sterilization equipment, and ensuring adherence to infection control standards within a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certification: CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification required.
• Experience: 1-3 years of hospital experience preferred.
• Schedule: Hours subject to change; Evening shift.
• Technical Knowledge: Cleaning, decontamination, instrument processing, sterilization, and linen preparation.
• Equipment Experience: Operate and maintain sterilization equipment including sterilizers, cart washers, decontamination equipment, and drying cabinets.
• Onboarding Credentials: Completion of mandatory orientation programs upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Select and apply cleaning products and procedures for Central Sterile instruments and equipment.
• Process and maintain surgical instruments for OR, delivery, clinics, ED, X-ray, and nursing units.
• Assemble instrument trays and baskets per requirements.
• Operate mechanical cleaning and sterilization equipment; monitor sterilizers, cart washers, and decontamination gear.
• Sort, inspect, delint, wrap, and sterilize linen per procedures.
• Perform additional Central Service duties to support operations and patient care.

Central Service Technician

A Typical Day:

As a Central Service Technician, a typical day might include the following:

• Selecting and applying the appropriate cleaning products and procedures for instruments and equipment within the Central Service department.
• Processing and maintaining surgical instruments for the Operating Room, Delivery Room, Dental Clinic, outpatient clinics, Emergency Department, X-Ray, Minor Surgery, and nursing units.
• Picking instruments and assembling instrument trays and baskets according to department and procedural requirements.
• Operating and maintaining mechanical cleaning and sterilization equipment, including sterilizers, cart washers, decontamination equipment, and drying cabinets.
• Sorting, examining, delinting, folding, wrapping, and sterilizing linen according to established procedures.
• Performing additional Central Service duties and responsibilities as requested to support departmental operations and patient care.
