Job summary

The World Bank Group is seeking an Extended Term Consultant to advance spatial analysis and distributional impact work within the Fiscal Policy and Growth team. Based in Washington, DC for a one-year term, this position focuses on poverty mapping, geocoding surveys with H3, and building or enhancing web tools such as WISE-APP, with potential extensions.

Candidates should have strong R/Python skills, experience with geospatial data, and the ability to communicate complex results clearly.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in economics or related field
• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience applying economic data and analytical tools
• Strong programming skills in R and/or Python
• Familiarity with geo-spatial analysis and GIS tools
• Familiarity with welfare analytics and household survey data
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Experience building interactive web applications (R Shiny, Streamlit) is a plus
• Strong data management and version control experience (Git)

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical assistance to country teams in implementing distributional analysis across poverty, climate, and policy dimensions
• Support geocoding of household surveys using the H3 spatial indexing system
• Support the construction of poverty maps by integrating spatial variables
• Assist country teams in integrating geospatial data and climate information into analytical workflows
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of tools like WISE-APP (Welfare Impacts of Weather Shiny App) and related dashboards
• Support preparation of reports, briefs, and presentations with analytical findings
• Develop training materials and deliver trainings on tools and geospatial skills
