Job summary

Buncombe County Schools seeks a bilingual ESL Interpreter to support families and students across the district. The role involves translating written and verbal communications to ensure effective engagement with English language learners and their families.

The interpreter will work with the Language Services Coordinator, travel to multiple schools in Buncombe County, and deliver accurate interpretation during enrollment events and appointments, with some after-hours events as needed.

Qualifications

• Bilingual Spanish and English with bicultural understanding.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with immigrant families.
• Experience coordinating ESL services or English as a Second Language programs.
• Own transportation with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Responsibilities

• Interpret written and spoken communications to assist ESL students and families.
• Work with the Language Services Coordinator to schedule interpretation.
• Interpret for enrollment and appointments at schools in Buncombe County.
• Maintain accurate mileage and activity logs.
• Travel in personal vehicle to different BCS locations.

Job Summary: Interpreters are responsible for interpreting written and verbal communication to ensure ESL students and their families receive effective communication enabling them to thrive within the educational environment.
Education and Experience:

• Bilingual Spanishand English. Bicultural preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working with immigrant families.
• Experience with coordinating educational services, including English as a Second Language (ESL)
• Comfortable working independently to deliver interpretative services throughout Buncombe County Schools.
• Effective time management and organizational skills.
• Possess own transportation and hold a valid NCDL and auto insurance.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Ability to work as needed, may include some after-hours events.
• Work with BCS Language Services Coordinator to scheduleinterpretation needs.
• Interpret for families at school enrollment and other appointments or events.
• Maintain accurate and timely mileage and activity logs.
• Travel in personal vehicle to various BCS locations to deliver services.
• Complete other duties asassigned by the BCS Language Services Coordinator
• Work environments include office, schools, and other locations throughout the community at various hours.
