Job summary

Barrios Technology in Houston seeks a Spaceflight Battery Hardware Project Engineer to join the team. You will provide design and test support for Johnson Space Center Engineering Directorate and help develop test procedures, verify flight hardware, and document configurations.

This entry‑level position requires a Bachelor's in engineering, basic electrical knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a lab, assemble and test systems, and communicate results in written and verbal form.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, 0–2 years of experience in the field or related area.
  • Familiar with electrical components and systems.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design and test support in various aspects of development for the Johnson Space Center Engineering Directorate.
  • Support project teams with development of test procedures and verification/validation processes.
  • Perform testing and verification of flight hardware.
  • Maintain baseline test configurations and document changes.
  • Generate paperwork for tasks such as TPS, DRs, and DTPs as needed.
  • Collaborate with project teams and report to project managers for technical support and task assignment.
  • Troubleshoot hardware to investigate mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Help resolve roadblocks to keep the project on schedule.
  • Work with technicians to build and test systems.
  • Perform other duties as required.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Spaceflight Battery Hardware Project Engineer to join the team with Barrios, a teammate company!

Responsibilities

The Spaceflight Battery Hardware Project Engineer will:

  • Provide design and test support in various aspects of development in support of the Johnson Space Center Engineering Directorate

  • Support project teams with development of test procedures and verification and validation processes

  • Perform testing and verification of flight hardware

  • Maintain and ensure baseline test configurations and document any configuration changes

  • Generate essential paperwork and documents for tasks assigned, such as Task Performance Sheets (TPS), Discrepancy Reports (DR), and Detailed Test Procedures (DTP), as needed

  • Work in a collaborative, team environment and report to project managers for technical support, task assignment, and processes

  • Plan and execute hardware troubleshooting to investigate mechanical and electrical failures within hardware or test support hardware

  • Work with project assigned personnel to resolve any roadblocks to keep the project executing on schedule and moving forward

  • Perform job functions based on pre-established guidelines or instructions

  • Work with technicians to build and test designed systems

  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, plus zero (0) to two (2) years of experience in the field or in a related area

  • Familiar with electrical components and systems

  • Ability to work independently when required

  • Self-motivated, team player with adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required

  • Ability to operate in a laboratory environment and perform necessary troubleshooting tasks

  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings.

  • Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex mechanical/electrical systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Experience with the design, assembly, verification, testing, and operation of space hardware
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
  • Prior experience with hardware anomaly troubleshooting and failure analysis.
  • Experience with procedure development
  • Co‑op or Intern experience at JSC or other NASA agency
  • Familiarity with the Engineering Life Cycle process
  • Prior experience working and coordinating requirements with third party/outside vendors
  • Familiarity with NASA Quality operational procedures and requirements
  • Willing to work off hours/alternative shifts when running tests.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
