Loft Orbital Solutions in Golden, CO is seeking a Thermal & Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. You will help develop workflows for thermal interface materials and participate across engineering and AIT teams to take ideas from CAD to shipped satellite parts.

The role emphasizes CAD proficiency, hands-on fabrication, experiment planning, data analysis, and clear documentation, with on-site collaboration and potential housing/relocation support.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Materials/Manufacturing engineering or related field.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or CAD and ability to create engineering drawings.
• Hands-on fabrication or test experience through projects, internships, or lab work.
• Ability to plan experiments, record data, and analyze results with Python or Excel.
• Strong written communication and documentation skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and interest in space.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct trials to compare materials and cutting methods (laser, digital knife, die-cut).
• Evaluate cut quality, dimensional accuracy, material handling, and contamination risk.
• Develop a repeatable CAD-to-cut parts workflow for assembly-ready kits.
• Help establish drawing/DXF conventions and document cutting settings.
• Create labeling, protective liners, packaging, and handling workflows.
• Develop work instructions and inspection checklists with engineering and AIT.
• Present findings and recommend materials and processes balancing thermal needs and manufacturability.
