Job summary

The University of Arizona's Steward Observatory seeks a Controls Software Architect to lead architecture, modeling, and simulations for space telescope pointing, guidance, navigation, and control systems. You will develop high-fidelity models and verification plans to support mission-critical engineering decisions.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Science or Engineering.
  • 10 years of control software experience in parametric simulation of controls systems and/or performance assessment of complex space/defense systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of software models, simulations, and control frameworks for space telescope pointing, guidance, navigation, and control systems.
  • Lead development of high-fidelity system and subsystem models using first-principles analysis and data to evaluate performance and inform decisions.
  • Lead integrated control loop simulators and digital environments to assess spacecraft performance (jitter, line-of-sight stability, etc.).
