SAIC is seeking a Space System Infrastructure Systems Engineer (Chantilly, VA) to guide concept development, verification, and deployment of critical space infrastructure. You will liaise between engineering teams and government stakeholders, translating CONOPs into infrastructure requirements for satellite production, launch, and operations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work with external stakeholders to navigate the complex bureaucracy associated with MILCON.
  • Experience with space systems launch and operations.
  • Ability to absorb extensive technical detail and logically formulate solutions for execution on an inflexible schedule, often requiring integration of conflicting and, at times, incomplete data.
  • Experience with the Intelligence Community or the Department of Defense Satellite Program Office best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, team building and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to be effective in a government/contractor team environment.
  • Ability to facilitate technical discussions with SMEs.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience of senior decision makers with varying levels of programmatic and technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to a Senior Program Manager responsible for the physical infrastructure required to execute satellite production, launch, and operations for a major space system.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the Military Construction (MILCON) process to include evaluation of potential solutions and physical sites for facilities, operations centers, and launch support facilities.
  • Interpret the System’s CONOPs into infrastructure requirements and provide input to inform and modify CONOPs as the mission evolves.
  • Support the creation and execution of acquisition plans for the system’s infrastructure and provide assessments of contractor designs at milestone reviews.
  • Support the creation of processes and plans to enable satellite operations center standup and integration with end-users.
  • Support creation of processes for satellite launch.
  • Develop technical documentation (SOW), review deliverables, and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Act as a liaison between engineering teams, project managers, QA, and end-users for end-to-end mission success.
  • Develop documents and briefings to communicate status to Government and industry as required.

Job Description

This position is for a Space System Infrastructure Systems Engineer in Chantilly, VA supporting cutting-edge and innovative space programs. The Space Systems Infrastructure Engineer provides embedded support within the Government program office to guide the concept development, verification, and deployment of a critical space system bridging the gap between high-level project management and technical engineering.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to a Senior Program Manager responsible for the physical infrastructure required to execute satellite production, launch, and operations for a major space system.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on the Military Construction (MILCON) process to include evaluation of potential solutions (e.g. buy vs. lease, near-term vs. long-term solutions) and physical sites for Assembly, Integration, & Test (AI&T) facilities, operations centers facilities, and launch support facilities.
  • Interpret the System’s Concept of Operations (CONOPs) into infrastructure requirements and, when possible, provide input to inform and modify the CONOPs as the mission evolves.
  • Support the creation and execution of a variety of acquisition plans for the system’s infrastructure, and provide technical and programmatic assessments of contractor designs at major milestone reviews to assess progress, risks and issues, and the ability to achieve mission requirements.
  • Support the creation and establishment of the processes, procedures, and support plans necessary to enable satellite operations center standup and integration with end-users.
  • Support the creation and establishment of the processes, procedures, and support plans for satellite launch.
