Job summary

KBR is seeking Temporary Sewing Technicians to support the NASA Johnson Space Center space suit design team in Webster, TX. The role involves fabrication, assembly and repair of soft-goods using various industrial sewing machines, with strict adherence to safety and quality procedures.

On-site at customer facility; six-month duration with potential for full-time conversion. Candidates should have 2–5+ years of related sewing experience, high school diploma or GED, and the ability to read

Qualifications

• Proficient in the use and operation of the following industrial sewing machines: Straight Stitch, Walking Foot, Bartack, Buttonhole and 3 Thread Rolled Hem Serger.
• Proficient in reading soft-goods fabrication and assembly drawings.
• Proficient in the fabrication of soft-goods patterns.
• Ability to sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine to very tight tolerances.
• Ability to cut materials according to specifications to very tight tolerances.
• Monitors machine operation to detect problems such as defective stitching, breaks in thread, or machine malfunction.
• Capacity to work in a team environment.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen

Responsibilities

• Sew materials by hand and/or sewing machine to join, gather, reinforce, or decorate materials or fabricated articles.
• Cuts materials according to specifications, or trims excess material or thread from finished product.
• Examines and measures finished articles to verify conformance to standards.
• Monitors machine operation and adjusts as needed to maintain quality.
• Positions and marks patterns on materials to prepare for sewing and operates under sewing machine presser foot and needle.
• Records amount of materials processed in production logs.
• Ensure quality and accuracy of the product fabrication according to drawings and instructions.
