Job summary

Cowboy Space Corp. is seeking a Test Engineer to design and build fluid, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems for component, engine, and stage-level test. You will own P&IDs and take designs from schematic through procurement and checkout.

You will operate and troubleshoot systems, handle high-pressure and cryogenic environments, write procedures, perform hazard analysis, and own schedules; bachelor's in mechanical or aerospace engineering; 4-8 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• 4-8 years of relevant test experience in propulsion, fluids, energetics, or industrial systems with physical risk.
• First-principles depth in fluids, thermo, and structures for whiteboard reasoning.
• Experience creating P&IDs and translating designs to procurement and build.
• Ability to integrate and troubleshoot mechanical and electronic subsystems.
• Experience with high-pressure or hazardous environments and safety habits.
• Experience writing and operating test procedures; able to work under pressure.
• Some software aptitude: data reduction, control sequences, scripting; Python preferred.
• Self-directed with strong written communication; capable of handling multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Design and build fluid, mechanical, instrumentation, and control systems for component, engine, and stage-level test.
• Own P&IDs and take fluid system designs from schematic through procurement, fabrication, and checkout.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot those systems, including electrical and software aspects.
• Safely operate high-pressure and cryogenic systems: LOX, LNG, high-pressure gas.
• Write test procedures and run them as test conductor under pressure.
• Perform hazard analysis and set safety controls, exclusion zones, and abort criteria.
• Instrument tests to ensure proper sensor selection, calibration, DAQ, and robust sampling rates.
• Reduce and present test data; drive anomalies to root cause rather than retest.
• Own stand project schedules, especially long-lead items and critical-path activities.
