Job summary

WinCo Foods is a growing family of over 140 supermarkets across 10 states with more than 22,000 employee-owners. The Space Management team develops and maintains accurate planograms to optimize sales and margins, contributing to low prices and strong store performance.

Under the guidance of space management leaders, this role focuses on data-driven merchandising, collaboration with buyers and store management, and delivering profitable store layouts while supporting company growth and community

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of retail merchandising experience.
  • Knowledge of Blue Yonder/JDA, Symphony i2e and/or Apollo Suites software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and manages planograms at store level for all product categories using space planning software.
  • Analyzes performance metrics (days of supply, margins, sales) to improve space productivity.
  • Coordinates rollouts of planograms, resets, remodels, and new store openings.
  • Maintains a comprehensive database of store planograms and product attributes.
  • Communicates planogram changes to floor plan team and stakeholders.

Overview

Under general direction of Manager of Space Management or Senior Space Planning Analyst, works as a cross functional team member providing merchandising insight to the procurement team to plan and implement products with a speed to shelf emphasis. Responsible for developing and maintaining accurate planograms across assigned product categories for company stores, using space planning and database software. This position will ensure sales, margin performance and labor efficiencies of planograms are optimized through knowledge of product assortment, merchandising and most effective visual display standards potentially impacting hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates and manages planograms at the store level for all product categories using space planning software according to merchandising and planogram standards.
  • Analyzes performance metrics, such as days of supply, margins, and sales to provide recommendations that identify potential opportunities to improve productivity of space to the buying department.
  • Coordinates and implements roll out of new planograms, resets, remodels and new store openings with store management, suppliers and distributors.
  • Maintains a comprehensive database of store planograms.
  • Accurately captures product attributes and merchandising information (e.g., product dimensions, description, size, etc.)
  • Liaises with buyers, floor planners, store managers, suppliers and distributors as necessary to develop accurate planograms that optimize sales and margin performance.
  • Communicates planogram changes to the floor plan team.
  • Provides support for all space management activities (e.g., category resets, new store merchandising, special projects, etc.)
  • Creates communication documents for Store merchandising execution
  • Works with Assortment Analysts for assigned categories on a review basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising or related field OR equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience in addition to experience listed below.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of retail merchandising experience.
  • Knowledge of store operations, distribution, and logistics; technical retail skills and the ability to interpret market research and produce performance.
  • Merchandising in a variety of different retail settings.
  • Understanding how planograms are used at the store level and how store sets/resets are conducted.
  • Demonstrating working knowledge of Blue Yonder/JDA, Symphony i2e and/or Apollo Suites software.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of how to build a planogram in data, structure and fixture.
  • Demonstrating advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suites software.
  • Demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of internal and external team members and customers.
  • Demonstrating ability to prioritize in a fast paced multi-tasked environment.

Ability to:

  • Analyze sales, margin performance, shrink and labor efficiencies of planograms.
  • Optimize planograms through knowledge of product assortment, merchandising and most effective visual display standards.
  • Be detail oriented with the potential of impacting hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit.
  • Plan and manage projects, such as remodels, resets, etc.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with fellow employees, outside contacts, user groups and vendors.
  • Write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings.
  • Respectfully challenge standard practices to identify improved practices and processes.
  • Travel extensively for extended periods of time.
  • Work graveyard / overnight and weekend schedules as required depending on project needs.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, bend at waist and twist upper body frequently, repetitive use of hands continually.

Additional Requirements:

  • Acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles driving record.

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc)

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Blue Yonder/JDA certification
  • CPCA, CPCM or CPSA Certification
  • MBA
