Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Mechanisms Engineer II for Opto-Mechanical Systems to design, analyze, and qualify precision space mechanisms for the TeraWave constellation. You will work under mentors to develop gimbal assemblies, pointing mechanisms, and related hardware for space-based optical communications.

This role offers growth in a collaborative team with mission-critical hardware, from concept through production. Travel up to 20% and relocation assistance are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Exposure to design/analysis of precision mechanical systems like gimbals.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and FEA tools (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, ANSYS, NASTRAN, Comsol).
• Understanding of mechanism kinematics, dynamics, and structural analysis.

Responsibilities

• Support design/development of precision gimbal assemblies and pointing mechanisms under guidance.
• Help develop mechanism performance requirements, error budgets, and design margins.
• Conduct design trades and analyses for gimbal configurations with senior oversight.
• Assist qualification activities including testing in shock, vibration, and thermal vacuum environments.
• Prepare design documentation, analyses, and test procedures for review.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integration, harness routing, and interfaces.
