Job summary

Peraton in Monrovia, CA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team supporting NASA's Deep Space Network through a contract with JPL. You will design and maintain HVAC systems for mission-critical facilities and collaborate with engineers across disciplines to ensure reliable operations.

The role requires BS/BA with 5 years experience (or MS/MA with 3 years), knowledge of ASHRAE standards, and U.S. citizenship with ability to pass background checks and obtain a REAL ID license.

Qualifications

• Requires 5 years with BS/BA or 3 years with MS/MA; PhD not required.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and building/fire codes (IBC, IMC, NFPA).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• U.S. citizen and able to pass a background check and NCIC screening.
• REAL ID driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain advanced HVAC systems for a critical communications network.
• Lead design, maintenance, and installation of HVAC systems for mission-critical facilities.
• Perform load analysis and duct/pipe sizing calculations.
• Support engineering studies, code reviews, and field investigations.
• Provide oversight for chillers, air handlers, boilers, pumps, and related systems.
• Troubleshoot systems using schematics and drawings.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance systems.
• Contribute to preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
• Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, IBC, IMC, IFC, IPC, NFPA and other codes.
