Qualifications

• Must administer medication to Special Education and regular education students in accordance with WV State law and County policy.
• Must complete certification in any area identified in the position for which not certified; must secure a permit if a student is placed under caseload in an area not on certification.
• Previous experience with disabled students, including those with behavior problems and pervasive developmental delays.
• Develop and implement behavior modification plans and utilize appropriate behavior strategies and techniques.
• Willing to collaborate with other professionals to facilitate integration of exceptional students in the least restrictive setting.
• Willing to team teach with other Special Education teachers and regular education staff during inclusion.
• Knowledge and experience in implementing educational strategies, alternative curricula, and individualized instructional techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding of the causes (etiology) of disabilities and their effects on educational practices.
• Demonstrate competency in working with medically fragile and orthopedically impaired children as necessary.
• May require lifting a minimum of 100 pounds vertically.
• May be required to work with adaptive equipment and prosthetic devices.
• Must follow and implement procedures described in health care plans.
• Willing to complete specialized training including CPR, First Aid, and Physical Intervention and Support Training.
• Must complete all training needed to successfully implement specified special education curricula at required programmatic levels (e.g., Read Well, Language!, V-Math, Trans-Math).
