Job summary

American Chemistry Council in Austin, TX seeks a Senior Director of State Affairs for the Southwest Region to lead statewide advocacy, regional public affairs, and grassroots initiatives. The role directs engagement with lawmakers, regulators, and industry partners to shape policy and communicate ACC’s positions.

The Senior Director will oversee strategy, stakeholder relations, speeches, and regulatory monitoring, reporting to the VP of State Affairs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in government affairs, political science, or related field.
• 10 years’ professional experience in grassroots or political arena.
• In-depth knowledge of political, legislative and regulatory processes on the state level.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound political and public affairs judgments, decisions and strategies.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple issues, projects, tasks, and information/requests.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to cultivate and manage high quality stakeholder relationships.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to travel, as needed, within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Direct ACC’s grassroots program and regional public affairs activities.
• Coordinate state and local advocacy, coalition development, and grassroots outreach.
• Engage with elected officials, regulators, and stakeholder groups.
• Prepare speeches and presentations for senior leadership and boards.
• Monitor legislative/regulatory developments and recommend positions.
• Manage budget and supervise staff in the region.
