Anning-Johnson Co is seeking skilled plasterers to apply coatings on interior and exterior surfaces with accuracy and speed. The role involves reading blueprints, selecting appropriate plaster mixtures, and coordinating with foremen to ensure timely project completion.
The position emphasizes safety, quality, and attention to detail, with opportunities to work on decorative plaster projects and ornamental pieces as needed.
Plastering entails a great deal of dexterity and speed. It involves coating internal walls and ceilings with different types of plaster so they are ready to be decorated, as well as the coating of external surfaces with appropriate materials such as cement or sand.
There is also a workshop component, creating plasterwork to order in varying shapes and sizes, while maintaining the necessary production and quality required to complete projects and exceed customer expectations.
Plasterers are typically responsible for the production and quality of the products they install. The role usually reports to a foreman or lead man and is assigned a range of tasks to be completed. Timely production and quality are the main responsibilities of a plasterer. In addition, plasterers must work safely and maintain a safe work environment.
Plasterers must work within precise limits and standards of accuracy. For example, they apply shop mathematics to solve problems; plan work and select proper tools; compare and view differences in the size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; picture solid objects from drawings or diagrams; perform a variety of duties which may change often; and rate information using standards that can be measured or checked. Physically, plasterers must be able to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders, reach for, handle, manipulate objects and materials, lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; and see well (either naturally or with correction).
NOTE: In the LA area wages range from $18.66 per hour for entry level apprentices to $41.47 per hour for Journeyman. Wages are determined by union scale as determined in the current collective bargaining agreement.
