Job summary

Otterbein SeniorLife in Ohio is seeking a motivated Sous Chef to manage daily kitchen operations and lead dining services for our Long-Term Care neighborhood. You will work closely with the Executive Chef to ensure high-quality meals, safety, and compliance with policies and regulations.

The role requires strong leadership, hands-on mentoring, and scheduling skills, with experience in LTC or similar settings preferred. A ServSafe certification and culinary education are valued assets.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years cooking experience in LTC or similar setting preferred.
• ServSafe certification.
• Understand use and maintenance of kitchen equipment.

• Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed.

Job description

The Sous Chef position is responsible for helping Otterbein manage the overall dining experience of the campus. The position will manage all daily operations, including overall direction of kitchen staff. The position requires an individual who will carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organizational policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Shift: Full Time 1st

Responsibilities

• Excellent customer service is a must!!
• Oversees the activitiesof the kitchen staff and monitors all food production and presentation.
• Monitors and evaluates staff performance and provide feedback to the Executive Chef.
• Mentoring culinary staff as needed.
• Trains and assists staff in proper procedures and policies.
• Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed.
• Oversight of the dining experience of the Long-Term Care Neighborhood.
• Work side-by-side and hands on experience with the Executive Chef.
• Scheduling.
• Strong leadership skills.
• A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
• Oversight of inventory.
• Requires an understanding of federal, state and local food and safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Understand the use and maintenance of various kitchen equipment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel. Excellent record of kitchen and staff management.

Education: A degree in Culinaryscience or related certificate would be a plus.

Licensure: ServSafe certification.

Experience: 2 to 5 year’s cooking experience in LTC or similar setting preferred
