Descripción del empleo

The Commodity Manager will play a key role in executing global sourcing and capacity management strategies for data center controls and life-safety scopes, including Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), Control Systems Integration, VESDA (very early smoke detection), fire alarm and suppression controls, sprinkler systems and related instrumentation and security systems. This role is responsible for driving data-driven demand planning, securing supplier and integrator capacity, and enabling efficient program execution through strong cross-functional collaboration with design, construction, commissioning, and supply chain teams. The ideal candidate combines hands-on controls procurement experience with analytical rigor, and is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to influence both internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support execution of the ONCP (Owner Negotiated, Contractor Procured) program across assigned controls commodity scopes, including BMS, EPMS, Control Systems Integration, VESDA, fire alarm, and related systems
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for data center controls scopes, including RFQ/RFP development, technical and commercial bid evaluation, negotiation, and award of supply and installation agreements
  • Manage relationships with controls OEMs, system integrators, and specialty contractors (e.g., BMS/DDC platforms, instrumentation and panels, aspirating smoke detection, fire alarm panels and devices, fire sprinkler systems, etc.), including master and framework agreements
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and commissioning teams to review controls specifications, points lists, sequences of operation, and standards so that sourcing decisions align with technical and AHJ/code requirements
  • Read technical drawings and estimate quantities and cost of relevant scopes
  • Structure, manage, and maintain data architecture to support sourcing activities, automate demand forecasting, and enable capacity reservation planning
  • Update and manage the monthly demand planning cycle, including supporting allocation strategies and vendor capacity reservations for controllers, panels, sensors, detection equipment, and integration labor
  • Track and mitigate lead time, supply, and pricing risk for long-lead controls equipment, and coordinate submittals, procurement, and delivery with project schedules
  • Coordinate and communicate changes to internal stakeholders and external suppliers in a timely and effective manner
  • Develop and maintain monthly reporting, including dashboards tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), purchase order status, and supplier capacity utilization
  • Lead and/or participate in weekly and monthly meetings with supply chain teams and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Develop baseline estimates and schedules for various design configurations; align forecasts with central estimating teams on quantities and required delivery dates
  • Expand execution support to additional commodity scopes as they are onboarded into the ONCP program
  • Contribute to the development of business plans for new ONCP opportunities across the data center supply chain
  • Engage with external vendors to assess and identify opportunities related to lead time improvements, cost optimization, standardization, and capacity expansion
  • Support and back up Commodity Managers on the team who are responsible for other scopes (eg. MV Cable, Conduit, 48’ PVF, Joist & Deck, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • 5–10 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or commodity management, including direct experience sourcing building controls and/or life-safety scopes (BMS, VESDA, fire alarm / sprinkler, instrumentation, etc.) for data center, mission-critical, or large commercial construction projects
  • Working knowledge of controls, instrumentation and life-safety systems, including BMS/DDC architecture, EPMS, aspirating smoke detection (VESDA), fire alarm and suppression interfaces, and their integration and commissioning requirements
  • Experience negotiating and administering supply, subcontract, and integrator agreements, including pricing structures, terms, and commercial risk allocation
  • Strong analytical skills with experience managing and interpreting large datasets
  • Experience with demand planning, forecasting, and supplier capacity management
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets; experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred

  • Experience supporting large-scale programs or capacity reservation initiatives
  • Knowledge of supply chain systems or ERP tools
  • Familiarity with other data center commodities (e.g., cable, electrical gear, mechanical equipment) is a plus
