Job summary

Leidos seeks a SATCOM Training Specialist to design, deliver, and maintain training curricula for tactical SATCOM systems. The Defense Sectorat Leidos currently has an opening for a Suite of Terminals (SoT) SATCOM Training Specialist with a specialization in Satellite Communications (SATCOM). This position requires at least a DoD Secret clearance and will support Warfighter Readiness by providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of training curriculum for tactical SATCOM and associated systems. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and maintaining a high level of technical and instructional expertise in SATCOM operations. The role will interface directly with military students to train them on the latest curriculum for setting up, configuring, operating, and maintaining SATCOM systems in field environments. A successful candidate will leverage their military and technical experience to inject evolving curriculum with the latest operational principals, preparing service members for complex missions. The fielding and instructional materials will primarily focus on tactical SATCOM terminals, such as Starlink, Tampa Microwave, Airbus Ranger, Lite Comm and L3-Harris 1.3m antennas, and related communications equipment. The Suite of Terminals (SoT) SATCOM Training Specialist will support the Warfighter Readiness program at either Fort Hood TX, Fort Campbell, KY or Fort Gordon, GA.

Responsibilities

New Equipment and Field Operations Support:

  • In support of specified Warfighter Readiness requirements with the gaining unit/organization in CONUS/OCONUS.
  • Travel to customer locations to assess unit equipment fielding needs and provide unique SATCOM configurations and solutions to ensure mission operability.
  • Interface directly with Government customers as the primary technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on SATCOM-related matters.
  • Perform joint system check-outs of each SATCOM terminal and integrated system prior to issue.
  • Conduct technical analysis for system implementations, modifications, and potential enhancements.
  • Perform de-installations, installations, and handoffs for specified SATCOM systems.
  • Troubleshoot SATCOM terminal, link, and system integration issues, determine solutions in accordance with customer needs, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform engineering assessments of new equipment and software upgrades for integration into SATCOM systems.
  • Develop and improve operations processes and best practices for each location.
  • Develop lesson materials and conduct on-site field training of operations personnel on newly implemented SATCOM systems and procedures.
  • Prepare and coordinate activities, including material development, telephonic/email customer support.

Curriculum Development:

  • Coordinate with Government customers to prepare and maintain training material and New Equipment Training (NET) plans for current and future SATCOM systems.
  • Create customized training plans based on current systems, new equipment upgrades, and mission-specific operational requirements.

Training Services:

  • Provide expert instruction on SATCOM theory and practical application in both field and classroom environments.
  • Be prepared to conduct training at night and in inclement weather.
  • Coordinate classroom and field site set-up to support each individual class.
  • Provide modernization instruction on the operations and maintenance of supported SATCOM systems and associated equipment.
  • Serve as primary fielder, installer, and instructor for all SATCOM-related training.

Cross Training & Continuing Education:

  • Participate in formal training and self-instruction to increase the breadth of systems competency for training and fielding requirements.
  • Continue education through self-study and other methods to maintain expert status in the SATCOM field.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 3 or more years of experience or equivalent Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) in lieu of degree requirements. Directly related experience can offset the degree requirements.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance required.
  • Hands on experience on related TN (formerly WIN-T) systems required.
  • Deep knowledge of satellite communication systems including GEO, MEO, and LEO architectures.
  • Proficiency with SATCOM equipment - terminals, antennas, modems.
  • Prefer experience with iDirect 950mp modems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards - DVB-S2, SCPC, TDMA, and relevant military standards.
  • Technical understanding of the HEO, GEO, MEO and LEO constellation/orbits.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining 1-2M tactical satellite antennas.
  • Significant experience with military training and instruction.
  • Extensive working knowledge of tactical Satellite Communications (SATCOM) systems, including terminal setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Experience in the full lifecycle of training: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of training packages.
  • Deep knowledge of SATCOM theory, fundamentals, and concepts (e.g., satellite acquisition, link budgets, troubleshooting).
  • 50% CONUS and OCONUS travel required.

Pay Range

Pay Range $59,150.00 - $106,925.00
