Job summary

The Salvation Army in Weirton, WV is seeking a part-time Store Associate for the PMC-Weirton Family Store. The role processes donations, sorts items, tags and prices, and prepares displays. Work location is in Weirton with up to 28 hours per week and hourly pay between $10.25 and $10.75.

This position requires accurate counting, basic math, and ability to use a cash register, with physical duties including lifting light items and standing for periods. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D.; and experience working in a retail store preferred OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to category and condition.
• Selects items suitable for store display and distributes to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing.
• Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
• Hangs clothes on hangers and places them on racks.
• Packs items in boxes and marks boxes; assists in transporting boxes to storage area.
• Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.
• Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
• Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.

Work Schedule: Part-time (up to 28 hours/weekly)

This position is responsible for:

Key Responsibilities:

• Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.
• Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing, discards items in accordance with established procedures.
• Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures.
• Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.
• Packs items in boxes and marks boxes; accordingly, assists in transporting boxes to appropriate storage area.
• Prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer.
• Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
• Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to operate a cash register.
• Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count change.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Physical ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
• Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building.
• Work is performed in a warehouse environment where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
