Job summary

Jersey City Free Public Library is seeking a Security Guard at the Earl Morgan Branch to patrol the building and grounds, protecting people and property from harm and deterring theft or vandalism.

Under the Director of Facilities, you will monitor activity, manage entry flows, and respond to emergencies. A valid SORA license is required or must be obtained within 45 days of hire; a NJ driver’s license is needed if vehicle operation is required.

Qualifications

• Must have SORA license or obtain within 45 days of hire.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license if vehicle operation is required.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.

Responsibilities

• Inspect areas for fire hazards and ensure extinguishers are in place.
• Monitor monitors for unauthorized persons or intruders.
• Control entry and exit flows at posts to maintain order.
• Observe and assess suspicious packages or behavior to prevent theft of government property.
• Remove disorderly persons after verbal warnings.
• Restrain violent or disruptive individuals when necessary.
• Direct occupants to evacuate during emergencies.
